At Sandwick, our approach to supporting learning is underpinned by the GIRFEC framework and a staged model of support – to ensure our learners are happy, resilient and achieving.

At Sandwick, we use this staged approach to underpin our support for learners with Additional Support Needs (ASN), ensuring that every child receives appropriate support through universal provision, targeted interventions and individualised planning, in partnership with families and relevant agencies.
An Individual Education Plan (IEP) is a personalised plan for children and young people who require additional support to help them access learning and achieve their full potential.
An IEP is a working document that helps school staff, parents/carers and pupils work together to identify clear targets, appropriate support strategies and next steps for learning and wellbeing. It ensures that everyone involved understands how best to support your child and celebrate their progress.
Support for Learning (SfL) remains an ongoing priority within our School Improvement Plan (SIP), with a focus on ensuring high-quality provision, strengthening professional knowledge and understanding, and developing a shared, inclusive approach that enables every learner to feel valued, supported and able to achieve their full potential. Senior Phase Learners & Alternative Pathways:
Alternative Assessment Arrangements are tailored to individual learners’ needs to ensure they can demonstrate their knowledge and skills fairly. These arrangements aim to remove barriers to assessment and promote inclusion, in line with relevant guidance.
At Sandwick, we recognise that curricular pathways look different for every learner. We have learners who access shared provision between us and wider education partners, part-time timetables, as well as a range of full-time provision timetables.
From Kings Trust Modules, National 3 and 4, NPAs, Vocational Pathways, UHI, National 5 Units and Higher qualifications to more individualised pathways, including Foundation Milestones, a Communication Friendly Curriculum and a CSP-Led Curriculum delivered in partnership with school staff and wider professionals, we are committed to providing a tailored learning experience that meets each learner’s needs, celebrates their strengths and enables them to thrive.
“Inclusion is not about every learner having the same experience, but about every learner having the opportunity, support and encouragement to achieve their full potential.”
